Preschool

At OLVPS, we believe that preschool should be a time for children to explore and learn in a fun and educational setting, learning through play and an environment of immersion. Play is essential to development, and a regular part of our days, as it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children. We also believe it is a wonderful time to learn about God and how He loves each one of us.

OLVPS preschool curriculum is planned in accordance with the PA Early Learning Standards to ensure each child is receiving age appropriate instruction and has the skills to be prepared for Kindergarten. Our preschool teachers also introduce Catholic prayers, liturgy, and tradition to help each child grow in his/her relationship with Christ. We also hold fun activities to learn about special days within the liturgical year and holy people such as: Patron Saint of our Preschool: Thérèse of Lisieux feast day activities, All Saints Parade, Advent Wreath Blessing, St. Nicholas Visit, Christmas Concert, Easter Basket Blessing and more. Teachers use fun manipulatives, play-based learning and texts to introduce academics and our faith.

OLVPS offers both age-specific and mixed-age traditional preschool programming for children aged 3 to 5 years old including:

3 Year Old Program (Pengiuns)

Children in the Penguin room focus on learning through play, work on transitions, being part of a group, focusing on social/emotional elements of interpersonal skills, are introduced to the alphabet and complete crafts and other activities that align with Pennsylvania Learning Standard for Early Childhood. Children in this program must turn three years old on or before August 31st of the school year for which they are enrolling.

Mixed-Age Developmental Program (Polar Bears)

Children in this program participate in activities that focus on social/emotional development as well as creative thinking and expression. They also learn interpersonal skills working with others. This program is a great program for children who have never attended preschool before and is not a Kindergarten readiness program. It meets three days a week: Mon, Wed & Fri. Children in this program must turn three years old on or before August 31st of the school year for which they are enrolling but may not turn five years old before February 1st of the following year.

4 Year Old Program (Kangaroos and Koalas)

While continuing to work on social/emotional skills, children in this program learn foundational language and literacy skills, including age appropriate phonemic awareness, mathematical thinking and expression, scientific thinking and learning about communities. Children learn through direct explicition whole and small group instruction, practice as well as inquiry and discovery learning. Children in this program must turn four years old on or before August 31st of the school year for which they are enrolling.

Pre-K Program (Owls)

The Our Lady of Victory Catholic School Pre-Kindergarten curriculum enables children to grow in mind, body and spirit. Our Pre-Kindergarten curriculum is specifically designed for older children (5 years old on or before December 31st of year of enrollment). In addition to learning pre-reading and math skills, OLVPS Pre-Kindergarten students gain skill in paying attention, following multi-step directions, maintaining self-control and sharing lovingly with others.

OLVPS Pre-Kindergarten teachers foster an environment that is joyful and enriched with the teachings of the Catholic Church and God's love for them. The OLVPS Pre-Kindergarten experience gives children a chance to learn, become excited about learning, be part of a vibrant school community, and be ready for Kindergarten and beyond.

At Our Lady of Victory Catholic Preschool, each program builds consecutively. Throughout the year, each class creates opportunities to interact with younger classes to help facilitate future progression through the program. These activities include, but are not limited to:

Shared specials activities
Acts of Service
Integrated classroom visit days
Preschool wide-programming.

In addition to lessons based on the Pennsylvania Learning Standard for Early Childhood, students attend art, music and library classes and play outdoors when the weather permits. Students are also taught lessons about our Catholic faith: saints, prayers, bible stories and the love of God.

All our preschool students and their families are cherished members of the greater Our Lady of Victory Catholic School family. Preschool students and their families are encouraged to join in all school family activities with the students and families of students in grades K to 8.
